Oxford University
At the time of my attendance at Oxford Universityc, the Latin term 'Literae Humaniores' referred to the course of studies, lasting four years, that included two distinct categories - the first, Classical Greek and Latin languages and literature, ended with an examination (called Honour Moderations) after two years; the second, Philosophy and Ancient History, ended with a 'Final Honours' examination. This combination of studies, each earning a 'First', 'Second', 'Third', 'Fourth' or 'Pass' from the Examiners, was called 'Greats'.
